There are many paths to development and prosperity. The distinguishing feature
of each is how government and citizens relate to each other with regard to the
ownership and operation of the means of production – land, manufacturing,
commerce - with implications for the distribution of the resultant wealth.
Today, the primary concern is about how much leeway to give to the free market
and how much for governmental intervention. This, question was the hallmark of
the 1965 published Government of Kenya Sessional Paper (Sessional Paper 10)
entitled African Socialism and its Application to Planning in Kenya.
Four decades down the road we acknowledge the failure to respect the framework
and the tendency towards a directionless programme. Drastic changes have since
occurred in the global politics and economy that now require that we completely
recast our path to development and prosperity hence the need for a new direction
starting
right
from
the
top
down
to the
grassroots.
Still
everyone
has
a role
to play
individually..
We must encourage the
creation of opportunities for more rural focused investment and local governments
have
to be
on the
forefront
of creating
enabling
environments
where
upcoming
enterprenuers
can
develop. Local
governments
must
support
the
governments
of the
day
and demonstrate
their relevance and legitimacy.
Corruption and mismanagement should have no place in supporting the realisation of rural
growth
in Kenya. The communities that we aspire to have can only be conceptualized
and attained by local governments driven by integrity and honesty for there
lies
the
future
of our
nation
I Erick
I.
Matsanza
would
therefore
now humbly submit my candidature for the Civic
Seat in Marakusi Ward in Lugari
Constituency. I have not lost hope
and
it is an honour and a privilege to seek to represent the
people
of
Marakusi
Ward
once again as a Civic Leader. With your vote you will have indeed given
me a voice to represent Marakusi
Ward in Local Governance, articulating your need for better
and transparent governance, equal opportunities for all, income creation, and the need for bridging
our communities extreme divides.
