The
youth have at times been called
the conscience of a nation. Their physical and mental energy, fearlessness, zest
for life and ideas often reflect what Kenyan society could be. Youthful energy
must
be brought into the mainstream of development by involving them in the development
and design of the future so as to achieve the millenium development goals. It is, after all, their future. They must be given a
say in shaping it. It begins at the local level, thus local governance.
Engaging
local
governance
and
relating
with
the
government
of the
day
can
see
this
achieved.
There are areas in the management of our
local
affairs where long experience counts. There are also areas where the ability to
question the status quo and vision a different reality will support us in
propelling our great country to new heights. We must learn to recognise the
difference and to call on the human resource that fits the need. Local governments
have
to play
a role
in charting the
way
forward
especially
in the area of information and communication
technologies which will serve as an engine to propell the economic growth for
the
rural
Kenya.

get

It may
not
be easy
but
its
possible.

Fighting
Poverty There are so
many poor persons
in the rural areas
in Kenya. Most poor dwellers
of Marakusi are
peasant farmers, yet still cannot afford to make ends meet.
Erick Matsanza would
like to work with
the dwellers of
Marakusi Ward to
initiate activities
that would change
their lives starting
with the youths
and women who are
unemployed or not angaged in income generating activities and establish programs
which will engage school leavers so as to reduce the number of persons who join
the "boda boda" business
in Lugari but first
in Marakusi Ward.
